BUSINESS OVERVIEW
General Information
The Thai Koon Group's main company is Thai Koon Steel Co., Ltd., which is one of the largest steel pipe manufacturers in Thailand. The company has over 300 employees. We produced 104,819 tons of steel pipes in 2023, with total revenue of 3.3 billion baht. Most of our customers are wholesalers and retailers of steel products and construction materials in the all regions of Thailand, modern trade customers include Homepro, Dohome, Global House, and Thai Watsadu, and direct sales to end users in various industries such as construction and automotive.
Group Structure
The parent company of group, is Thai Koon Steel Co., Ltd., which is 100% owned by the Sakunworaratana family. The group has three subsidiaries including:
- Thai Koon Chain Co., Ltd.: Manufactures steel chains and cold-rolled steel wire for sale. It is the first and only one steel chain manufacturer in Thailand. The company is 40% owned by Thai Koon Steel and 60% owned by the Sakunworaratana family.
- Thai Koon Trader Co., Ltd.: Acts as a distributor of steel pipes, fully owned by the Sakunworaratana family.
- Thai Koon Property Co., Ltd.: Engaged in asset and real estate management, fully owned by the Sakunworaratana family.
Market Structure and Activities
The group consists of two manufacturing companies: Thai Koon Steel Co., Ltd. and Thai Koon Chain Co., Ltd, separate by the raw materials as follows:
- Thai Koon Steel Co., Ltd.: Manufactures and sells products which use rolled steel as the raw material. Products include round steel pipes, square steel pipes, perforated painted steel angles, wood-grain patterned steel battens, and cut-to-length steel pipes. The main customers are domestic wholesalers, retailers of steel products, Modern Trade, and end users in the construction and interior design sectors.
- Thai Koon Chain Co., Ltd.: Manufactures and sells products which use steel wire as the raw material. Products include steel chains, high-tensile steel chains, cold-rolled steel wire, rain chains, and conveyor chains. Domestic customers are mainly in construction and interior design sector, and poultry producers such as CPF, TFG, and Saha Farm. International customers in the United States, South Korea, India, Malaysia, and China, mainly purchase high-tensile steel chains.
Economic Performance
The steel industry is the cyclical business. The group performance greatly influences by general macroeconomic, global production capacity, raw material prices, and exchange rates. The development of domestic markets and changes in the global steel market are also impact the group's financial performance.
After the steel market recovered from the COVID-19 crisis in 2022, and include that the economy in 2022, is affected by the war in Ukraine, travel restrictions in China, and central banks’ interest rate hikes to curb inflation. This resulted in an economic slowdown that reached its lowest point in the fourth quarter of 2022, making the fiscal year 2023 to be a recovery year, with an EBITDA of 187 million baht (increase by 22 million baht from last year).
